Apple on Monday issued second betas of iOS 10.3.2 and macOS 10.12.5 to developers, paving the way for what are likely to be minor bugfixes and security improvements for Macs, iPhones, and iPads. Simultaneously, the company released second betas of watchOS 3.2.2 and tvOS 10.2.1
The iOS 10.3.2 update solves problems with third-party VPN apps, according to Apple release notes. One known issue with the beta code, however, is that Siri text responses “may be incomplete.”
The macOS 10.12.5 beta lacks any release notes, suggesting that the finished software won’t address serious glitches, at least for most users.
Both updates can be downloaded through Apple’s developer portal, or else via built-in software update mechanisms for people already in the developer beta stream.
The first betas of iOS 10.3.2 and macOS 10.12.5 were released on March 28. The former, notably, appeared to lack any 32-bit support, suggesting that 10.3.1 will be the last version of iOS compatible with 32-bit devices like the iPhone 5 and 5c. Since the iPhone 5s Apple has relied on 64-bit mobile processors, and in fact warned that 32-bit apps can drag down performance on newer hardware.
Any changes in the new watchOS and tvOS betas are unknown, but like macOS 10.12.5 they appear to be basic maintenance updates.

Baru-baru ini, Which? Magazine mengidentifikasi “kebohongan” iklan menyangkut ketahanan baterai pada laptop. Komponen baterai memang menjadi salah satu perhatian utama publik, sehingga harus benar-benar diuji kebenaran iklannya.
Tak kurang dari 67 model laptop diuji Which? Magazine sepanjang Januari 2017 untuk memperkuat hasil analisis, sebagaimana dihimpun KompasTekno, Senin (3/4/2017).
Dalam pengujian, Which mengisi daya laptop hingga 100 persen. Kemudian, laptop digunakan untuk berselancar di internet dengan memanfaatkan jaringan Wi-Fi atau menonton video dari jaringan lokal. Pola tersebut diulang terus menerus hingga laptop tiga kali kehabisan baterai.
Hasilnya, rata-rata vendor laptop mengklaim ketahanan baterainya 50 persen lebih lama dari realita sebenarnya. Selisih waktu antara yang diumbar iklan dan realita bahkan tak cuma hitungan menit, melainkan jam.
Misalnya saja Lenovo Yoga 510 yang baterainya bisa sampai 5 jam menurut iklan. Ketika dites, ketahanannya cuma 2 jam 7 menit. Begitu pula dengan HP Pavilion 14-al115na yang baterainya diklaim berumur 9 jam, padahal cuma 4 jam 25 menit.
Dell Inspiron 15 5000 dan Acer E15 juga sama saja. Pengiklan menyebut baterai masing-masing bertahan 7 jam dan 6 jam, padahal cuma 3 jam 58 menit dan 2 jam 56 menit.
Di antara kebohongan-kebohongan yang jauh dari realita, ada satu yang setidaknya jujur yakni Apple. MacBook Pro 13 disebut-sebut bertahan hingga 10 jam, padahal kenyataannya bisa sampai 12 jam.

Degaussing is the process of decreasing or eliminating a remnant magnetic field. It is named after the gauss, a unit of magnetism, which in turn was named after Carl Friedrich Gauss. Due to magnetic hysteresis, it is generally not possible to reduce a magnetic field completely to zero, so degaussing typically induces a very small “known” field referred to as bias. Degaussing was originally applied to reduce ships’ magnetic signatures during World War II. Degaussing is also used to reduce magnetic fields in cathode ray tube monitors and to destroy data held on magnetic storage.
Data is stored in the magnetic media, such as hard drives, floppy disks, and magnetic tape, by making very small areas called magnetic domains change their magnetic alignment to be in the direction of an applied magnetic field. This phenomenon occurs in much the same way a compass needle points in the direction of the Earth’s magnetic field. Degaussing, commonly called erasure, leaves the domains in random patterns with no preference to orientation, thereby rendering previous data unrecoverable. There are some domains whose magnetic alignment is not randomized after degaussing. The information these domains represent is commonly called magnetic remanence or remanent magnetization. Proper degaussing will ensure there is insufficient magnetic remanence to reconstruct the data.
Erasure via degaussing may be accomplished in two ways: in AC erasure, the medium is degaussed by applying an alternating field that is reduced in amplitude over time from an initial high value (i.e., AC powered); in DC erasure, the medium is saturated by applying a unidirectional field (i.e., DC powered or by employing a permanent magnet). A degausser is a device that can generate a magnetic field for degaussing magnetic storage media.
Irreversible damage to some media types
Many forms of generic magnetic storage media can be reused after degaussing, including reel-to-reel audio tape, VHS videocassettes, and floppy disks. These older media types are simply a raw medium which are overwritten with fresh new patterns, created by fixed-alignment read/write heads.
For certain forms of computer data storage, however, such as modern hard disk drives and some tape drives, degaussing renders the magnetic media completely unusable and damages the storage system. This is due to the devices having an infinitely variable read/write head positioning mechanism which relies on special servo control data (e.g. Gray Code) that is meant to be permanently embedded into the magnetic media. This servo data is written onto the media a single time at the factory using special-purpose servo writing hardware.
The servo patterns are normally never overwritten by the device for any reason and are used to precisely position the read/write heads over data tracks on the media, to compensate for sudden jarring device movements, thermal expansion, or changes in orientation. Degaussing indiscriminately removes not only the stored data but also the servo control data, and without the servo data the device is no longer able to determine where data is to be read or written on the magnetic medium. The medium must be low-level formatted to become usable again; with modern hard drives, this is generally not possible without manufacturer-specific and often model-specific service equipment.

Many laws passed within the last 10 years outline legal and financial penalties for negligence with personal data. Samsung revealed its new top-of-the-line smartphone on Wednesday–and the Galaxy S8 comes with a bigger screen, slimmer design and a new AI assistant. But should Apple fans be worried? Hardly.
At least, that’s the takeaway from the performance of Apple stock, which has been on a nearly unbroken string of success for most of the last year. Apple shares are up more than 55% since its 2016 low of $90.34 last May, and 24% since the beginning of 2017. The stock was trading at more than $144 per share on Wednesday during the Samsung announcement, another new all-time high.
Analysts who cover Apple are mostly bullish on the company’s prospects as an investment, even at these higher share prices. 24 of 37 analysts tracked by Yahoo Finance call Apple either a Buy or Strong Buy, 10 call it a Hold, with only one dissenter arguing Apple stock is a Sell.
In his latest note on Monday, UBS analyst Steven Milunovich set his 12 month price target at $151 per share. Milunovich writes that he expects “double-digit unit growth” for iPhones in fiscal year 2018 as a large number of iPhone 6 owners seek to upgrade, “creating a strong year if not a ‘supercycle’.”
Nomura analyst Jeffrey Kvaal also increased his price target for Apple shares to $165. Citing expected shipments of OLED displays for Apple’s next iPhone, he predicts Apple will ship 90 million or more iPhones in the next cycle, higher than the consensus estimate of 82 million.
Investors are clearly hopeful Apple may be regaining its iPhone growth after a stagnant year and are encouraged by the emergence of Apple’s services revenue from iTunes, Apple Music, and the App Store. They also like Apple’s strategy of stock buybacks, which have decreased the total available shares by about 20% in the last year, driving up the price.

A recent survey has found that your IT department thinks a Mac is more manageable than a PC or Chromebook.
According to a survey of IT professionals, Macs and iOS devices are easier to manage when it comes to security, device configuration, software deployment, and support. Of those surveyed, 62 percent said the Mac is as easy or easier to deploy than PC, and 93 percent said it’s as easy or easier to deploy an iPhone or iPad over another device.
While most IT professionals found Apple’s products easier to manage overall, that was not the case when it comes to Mac integration. Only 36 percent of IT professionals claimed that it was easy or easier to integrate Macs into other environments. The survey is based on responses from 300 IT professionals and was commissioned by Jamf, the software management firm that focuses solely on Apple devices.
In addition, the survey found that a whopping 99 percent of companies have iOS devices in use, while 90 percent use Macs. Jamf speculates that Apple’s penetration in enterprise is being fueled by device choice programs, with user preference leaning towards Apple devices.
According to the survey, 71 percent of companies offered employees a choice between an iPhone, an Android device, or a Windows phone, while 44 percent offered them their choice between a Mac or PC. Employees’ use of Apple devices also went up in 2016, with 76 percent of companies seeing an increase in iOS adoption and 74 percent seeing an increase in Mac adoption.
Jamf cites IBM as an example of a device choice program that led to the world’s largest Mac deployment for enterprise. Since 2015, IBM has deployed almost 100,000 Macs. According to IBM’s internal survey, 73 percent of its employees choose a Mac as their next computer.
Similar to the enterprise, the education sector agrees that Mac and iPad are easier to manage than other devices. User preference was also a key factor driving adoption of Apple products in education, according to the survey. Ninety percent of K-12 schools use iPads, and 70 percent use Mac. In higher education, 94 percent have iOS users and 80 percent use Mac, the survey found.
“Similar to the enterprise, the education sector agrees that Mac and iPad are easier to manage than other devices,” read the press release.

Apple took down its online store early this morning as the company prepares to launch its special edition (PRODUCT)RED iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in more than 40 countries and regions around the world.

My Macbook is stuck on the grey screen with the apple logo and the spinning wheel. Workflow, first released in 2014, is an automation tool that can essentially do anything. It allows users to create a variety of workflows to accomplish tasks like creating GIFs from a series of photos, pulling images from a web page, translating an article, posting photos to multiple social networks at once, calculating a tip, and tons more.
It is equipped with a built-in Gallery, which allows people to quickly find and use a wide range of automation tasks, and it can be used to create custom automations.
Apple is purchasing the Workflow app and the Workflow team, including Ari Weinstein, Conrad Kramer, and Nick Frey, will be joining the company. “We are thrilled to be joining Apple,” said Weinstein in a statement. “We’ve worked closely with Apple from the very beginning, from kickstarting our company as students attending WWDC to developing and launching Workflow and seeing its amazing success on the App Store. We can’t wait to take our work to the next level at Apple and contribute to products that touch people across the world. Apple confirmed the acquisition of Workflow, which notably received an Apple Design Award in 2015 for its excellent accessibility features, likely one of the reasons behind the purchase.
Typically apps acquired from Apple disappear from the App Store, but Workflow will remain available and will be made free starting later today. The Gallery will continue to be updated on a regular basis, as will app integrations.
Beyond the app, it is not clear what Apple will do with Workflow in the future, and whether it will be built into future versions of iOS and macOS, but it is definitely a possibility. TechCrunch speculates that it could be used alongside Siri in the future, or perhaps be the backbone of powerful automation tools for the iPad.

The upcoming handset has been unofficially called a number of things, including iPhone 8 and iPhone X. Now a new report says the next Apple flagship could be called the iPhone Edition, and it’s going to be rather expensive.
Apple may reportedly call this year’s so-called iPhone 8 by another name. The premium smartphone, which is projected to be launched together with the iPhone 7s and the iPhone 7s Plus at a special event scheduled for September, is now apparently going to be called the iPhone Edition. The name reportedly signifies the handset’s higher end status, which is what the Mac maker also did with the Apple Watch Edition.
Previous reports have indicated that the iPhone 8 / iPhone Edition model could have a price tag that reaches upwards of US$1,000 (AU$1,328). This year marks the 10th anniversary of the iPhone, which is why it was previously thought that the 2017 model might be called the iPhone X. Fans are expecting that the special anniversary edition iPhone will be full of new features never before seen in previous models.
The report also mentions that the Cupertino, California-based company is testing several prototypes together with the iPhone 8 / iPhone Edition. Apple is supposedly experimenting with the prototypes’ display technology and supplies. Some equip LCD screens while others sport OLED panels.
Apple is also reportedly tinkering with the iPhone prototypes’ Home buttons. Some of the prototypes have them while others don’t. According to Japanese website Mac Otakara, while the iPhone 8 / iPhone Edition may be announced together with the successors of the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus, the actual release date of the new phones may come “very much” far behind. Also, the only sure-fire features that are reportedly going to come with the iPhone 8 / iPhone Edition are the iSight dual cameras and wireless charging. Apple today released a new update for Safari Technology Preview, the experimental browser Apple first introduced one year ago in March of 2016. Apple designed the Safari Technology Preview to test features that may be introduced into future release versions of Safari.
Safari Technology Preview release 25 includes fixes and improvements for Resource Timing, User Timing, WebCrypto, Web API, Web Inspector, CSS, Rendering, and Media. Today’s update enables Resource Timing by default.
